RUSSIAN NUCLEAR CENTER IN OBNINSK

The Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant was built in the science city of Obninsk, Kaluga Oblast. It was the first civilian nuclear power station in the world. 1 The plant is also known as APS-1 Obninsk (Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant 1). It was operational from 1951 to 2002, although electricity production for the power grid ceased in 1959.
